Summary: Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper/cook for Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. Their Great-Aunt Myra is coming to visit and they want to make sure she feels at home because she says she never feels at home anywhere but home. Mrs. Rogers gives Amelia Bedelia certain tasks to do while she is gone such as strip the bedsheets and remove the spots from her dress. Amelia Bedelia interprets all these things so literally though and causes some real problems. In the end though, she makes a fresh apple pie and serves it. Great-Aunt Myra says how at home this makes her feel and how much she loves apple pie and Mr. and Mrs. Rogers forget how upset they are about all the problems Amelia Bedelia caused and realize how grateful they are for her.
Who would you recommend this book to?
I would recommend this book to young children. I think that early readers would be able to really enjoy this book because they can read the words and see that what Amelia does in the pictures is clearly not what Mr. and Mrs. Rogers would be meaning. It's a fun nonsense book for children of any age.
Potential problems or conflicts: I don't see any potential problems or conflicts with this book.
My reaction:
I love Amelia Bedelia. She is so funny and keeps things so exciting. It's always fun to see how she's going to do her next assignment. This is a fun book and a fun series for learning about play on words and double meanings. I loved this book.
