Summary: This is a unique informational book about children around the world. It talks about different areas around the world and introduces readers to children from those places. It gives the names of the children and the children tell about their hopes, dreams, fears and other things about life. The book talks about the children’s different foods, lifestyles, beliefs, customs, houses and many other things. I really liked that it showed how each of the kids write their own names. There are two things that the book really stresses. It talks about how kids around the world have so many things in common like dreams and aspirations. The other thing it talks about and part of the reason they created the book was to help people fight for children’s rights. The authors and sponsors really wanted to put out a word to the world that children deserve to be safe and protected no matter where they are or what their circumstances of life. Readers are introduced to children of all different backgrounds from a young Thai boy who is preparing to be a monk to a little girl from a tribe that lives on the Amazon. This is a great book for introducing children to culture and showing them how much they actually have in common with children throughout the world.
Who would you recommend this book to?
I think this book is a great one for all children. I think it's one that all children should read because I feel that it is very important for children to have exposure to other cultures.
Potential problems or conflicts: I really liked this book. I think it's a good one for kids to learn about how other kids in other cultures have different things about life but also have things about life that are the same as their own. I love that UNICEF helped sponsor this and love that it is all about protecting children.
