Summary: In How One Went Out to Woo there was a man who went out to woo himself a wife. He went to a farmhouse and the people who lived there were very poor but they wanted to make themselves look rich so that he would marry their daughter. The father had one new sleeve on his coat and he went around brushing dust off of things in the house with that sleeve to draw attention to it. The mother who had one new shoe went around kicking chairs and furniture with that foot saying that things were out of place to draw attention to her new shoe. Then they called their daughter who had a new hat so she poked her head out of the room upstairs and says she can't be in so many places at once. The man sees all these new things and believes it to be a rich family. That's how it ends.
Who would you recommend this book to? These fairytales are okay and I think I would be okay recommending them to older kids. Not younger ones though.
Potential problems or conflicts: These can be a little strange and also a little bit on the gory side (like the Three Billy Goats eating the troll and the big one poking out his eyes through his ears).
My reaction: In my opinion these were better than the Jacobs fairytales but I still can see why they've altered the ones we tell kids now, from the original ones. These ones were kind of weird and somewhat gory too.
